Forestry and Agriculture combined are our largest single industry. The Team Leader should be a professional in some aspect of forestry. Team members will ideally represent major parts of the industry: academia, timber producers and segments of the forestry industry.
The exchange will take place on May 8th and return June 5th. The team will meet monthly for training and team building exercises.
District 5040 includes all of British Columbia and a small portion of the state of Washington. The District includes the Vancouver Club which was chartered in 1913 as Club #61. Click here to link to District 5040.
Timber harvesting is British Columbia’s largest industry. About 96 percent of the forested land in the province is coniferous, giving British Columbia approximately half of Canada’s total softwood inventory. British Columbia’s topography and climate divides the province into two distinct forest regions: the Coast and Interior. Coastal forests contain more hemlock than any other species, while lodgepole pine and spruce are the major interior species.
Timber harvests supported a large part of B.C.’s economic development and continue to provide the economic base for many rural communities. The annual timber harvest from all public and private land increased ten-fold during the 1900s, and levelled off in the 1990s, as sustainable forestry practices came into play.
GSE Team members must apply by August 22. Team members should be between 25 and 40 at the time of their selection and have been employed in their profession for at least two years.
